Russell Thompkins Jr. parents: Who are is father and mother
Russell Allen Thompkins Jr. (born March 21, 1951) is an American soul singer. He is best known as the original lead vocalist of the singing group The Stylistics, and he is famed for his high tenor, countertenor, and falsetto voices. From 1971 to 1974, The Stylistics achieved 12 consecutive Top 10 Billboard R&B hits and 5 gold singles with Russell as the main singer.
The Stylistics released “You’re a Big Girl Now” in 1970, which became a regional hit for Sebring Records. Avco Records quickly signed the group, and the record reached number seven on the R&B charts. Thom Bell centered the group’s sound entirely around Thompkins’ voice.
The Stylistics scored twelve consecutive top ten R&B songs in the United States between 1971 and 1974. The group’s overall commercial downfall became more acute after 1976. However, their popularity in Europe, particularly in the United Kingdom, grew following the 1970s. Their lighter ‘pop’ sound propelled them to the top of the UK charts in 1975.
Russell Thompkins Jr. was a member of The New Stylistics, along with James Ranton, Raymond Johnson, and Jonathan Buckson. He departed the organization in 2000, claiming he regretted not leaving sooner. He has now released a solo album titled A Matter of Style.
